Prepping your Toddler (and yourself!) for school
A workshop designed with the young child in mind
Whether your child is just starting their journey, or you are preparing them to rejoin the school environment after a break, a holistic approach that considers the unique needs of the toddler brain will help them (and you!) feel connected and grounded in the process.
ABOUT SEPARATION ANXIETY in toddlers, and how to navigate those big emotions to support their adjustment and learning.
ABOUT how to prepare YOUR CHILD for this transition, both through age-appropriate information and active participation in the prep for the big (yes, they can and want to participate! I'll show you how).
ABOUT how to prepare YOURSELF, with consideration of a conscious and positive parenting approach, to help your child navigate their journey.
ABOUT how to prepare YOUR HOME environment, an understanding of the big role of a prepared environment in helping your child feel safe and confident in the transition.
AND what to expect AFTER school re-entry: that's right--drop off is just the beginning!
Content informed by the science of child development, with the Montessori method in mind.
The truth is that there is a lot more you can do before the "big day" to make this an experience of connection and growth for you both--and a lot you can learn about what happens as your child continues adjusting to school.
You're busy: you need concise resources you can take with you, and concrete tools that will make a difference--without the need to watch the video again! I got ya:
A guide to the steps discussed in the workshop to walk your child through this new journey. These are general recommendations you can adapt to your own child based on their unique pace and growth.
A printable list with the suggested areas of your home environment to consider as you prep to support your toddler's growing independence and participation.
I always get asked, "how do I prepare myself for all the anxiety of their first day of school?". By asking yourself the questions included in this printable guide.
“Having my first daughter, and not knowing how to prepare her for her first day of school, made me very anxious. Thanks to this workshop my mind cleared up and a great weight was lifted from me. Now I have the tools to be able to be calm for myself and for my daughter, so that she can confidently arrive on her first day of class and she can enjoy it. Thanks Blanca for your this workshop. ”
Nohemi T.Absolutely! The transition away from full-time care with you is a tricky one no matter who they spend the time away with... even applicable if attending a home daycare or spending the full day at grandma's! Preparing your child and yourself for the process is the same.
I take my experience as a clinical child psychotherapist, what we know about child psychology, and what supports transitions through secure attachment, while also considering the important role of honoring the young child as a capable learner in the process. This means that you learn about what is happening with your toddler on an emotional developmental level, while also getting concrete strategies from grounded in the Montessori philosophy to honor a child's growing need for autonomy and independence, the importance of your own preparation as an adult, and the role that the home environment has in supporting their role as capable learners in this transition.
Absolutely not necessary! Any family can benefit from considering the strategies introduced through this workshop such as the preparation of the home environment to honor independence, and the importance of taking a gradual approach to preparing the child for this transition. All are integral parts of the Montessori philosophy but also concrete strategies that I integrate into my clinical approach to support young children's healthy emotional development *beyond* the Montessori method.
